Good day folks - whomever you might be. I am enjoying a slowish day at Foley, after a yesterday of answering phones and trying to send faxes for one of the managing partners of the firm. As you might imagine, I was a little stressed by the unusual responsibility.
Just ahead - a fine weekend in Amesbury, interrupted by an even finer concert - James Taylor at the TweeterCenter! I got these hard-to-find tickets from the concierge service that is a part of the office management company running One Post Office Square. So, Sarah and I will be on the lawn tomorrow night, listening to the summer sounds of Sweet Baby James. Can you tell I am excited?
Heading north to Newburyport
on the five-ten train,
digital camera at my side,
rock-a-bye sweet...

Another weekend consigned to the history books. Renée's graduation party with most of my relatives, time with Sarah, and now... back to work.
I recommend to you the film, "Love and Death on Long Island." A charming movie that depicts a stodgy British writer's American obsession. I wonder how many professorial quests for answers are grounded in similar obsessiveness, daring irrationality that attempts to make up for some inadequacy - age, hipness, etc.
The year has now crested, as the days will now begin to get shorter as we enter the hazy hours of summer. Such seasonal movement reassures me. How many of my office-bound colleagues thought about the summer solstice this week?

I've turned XXI, as Jesse might write. Do I feel any differently? Nah. I enjoyed some fine wine and micro-brewed beer, and I kept it pretty tame, I suppose. What did you expect?
The corporate summer continues... Foley Hoag has had me proofing patents, waiting for phones to ring, sending out FedEx packages, and killing time in the Word Processing Department waiting for something to happen. Things look to heat up when all the secretaries leave and go on summer vacation. I'll probably be overwhelmed at that point. The heat in Boston today might inspire some of my colleagues to find themselves at the beach instead of One Post Office Square tomorrow. Who knows?
The good news of the day is... my beta site is going into golden master format. I've completed all but a few cosmetic details, and it will be ready for total launch soon, usurping the old site in the process. I'll be moving the whole thing to my iTools site at that point as well, as UMass can't harbor me for ever. Though Chancellor Scott said something about UMass being somehow nautically reassuring at Commencement...I believe that the new site is looking good. Think so? Or think it's worse than before? Don't care? Let me know.
Monhegan plans are set. Sarah and I are departing for the Mid-coast on the afternoon of July 25th, crashing in a motel near the ferry, then taking the 7 a.m. boat to the island. I wonder whether the Johnsons will have rise to greet us at the dock..
I may just have my digital camera waiting for me at home! Still two hours to go, though.

My summer is off to a busy start, with a flurry of graduations, my new job, and some webwork on my new "beta" website. I've even gotten into a 5:30 wake-up routine, to accomodate a nice 2.5 mile jog every morning. A good thing: otherwise this young body would be progressing even more rapidly into adult flab.
Today being Friday, my job feels like it is going well. I have discovered, however, that I will not become a patent lawyer, as I was placed working on a patent proofreading project this week and I have never seen English as fractured as in the documents I came across. Today is a split day, including a lunch with my secretary "buddy;" I'm at one desk in the morning and another in the afternoon. Despite the turmoil and occasional disappointments, I'm glad to be here.
Then, I'll be meeting Sarah at Downtown Crossing, heading home, and trying to celebrate my 21st birthday (tomorrow) while spending the weekend spreading mulch around the Hingham yard for Renee's graduation bash next weekend. That's, of course, after I go to the Brockton RMV and get my new license!
Oh yes, and just like my dear friend Lester, I will be getting a Kodak digital camera within days as a graduation/birthday gift from my parents. Look for my photos page to come to life in the near future.
