After an anxious Christmastime of anticipation and the brutal examination period here at Harvard, winter "break" for me has come to its inevitable conclusion, and I'm back into it, now taking Criminal Law, Property, "Responsibilities of Public Lawyers," and working on a brief for the Ames Moot Court Competition. It appears I will also be an article editor for the Environmental Law Review here, which is an exciting chance to work with a legal scholar, critiquing his or her work.

As for exams, I have absolutely no idea how well I survived those merciless three days; we don't even get our grades until late February! You'd think law professors could grade our exams more quickly than that. The really interesting part of exams happened over the weekend between CivPro and Contracts... I was robbed. That's right, a little breaking and entering to ease my way into Criminal Law study. Laptop gone, wallet gone, single malt scotch gone, and oddly enough, so was all our microwavable goods. Mr. Kaiser (my suitemate) and I are somewhat shaken up still, especially considering the guy(s) came up the fire escape, entered through an unlocked but closed window, and proceeded out the front door. I have a special reason to fear; the burglar entered my dark room while I was sleeping (I did not wake up) to get my laptop and other sundry valuables. So if my contact with anyone has been sporadic or non-existent, I have two excuses - exams (not such a good one) and theft (better).

Luckily, Sarah came east from Sunderland with a heroic act of donation to the exam cause - temporarily offering her iBook to me. So I was saved from "Paper Chase" like examtime disaster. (I had backed up most of my files.) And now, I have a beautiful new top of the line TiBook (named Teagan, which means "attractive" in Gaelic). ComboDrive, new videocard, and a 667Mhz G4 processor, and for less than I paid for Quinn. Since I purchased it through Harvard, I got a bundled iPod too. (It's outstanding! 1000 songs!) So I made it through exams, and now have a better computer. If Fleet would ever send me my new ATM card, I would be pretty much "whole" materially. Whether or not I feel at ease in Cambridge is another matter altogether.

Still waiting on the job front for a few decisions to come in, I wish that the summer employment business was over. (Not that dealing with finding jobs is ever appealing to anyone.) Off to Amesbury this weekend, for a little R & R before the serious work sets in next week. Stay warm, wherever you are!
